Lexington immigration attorney Heather Hadi joins Barrett Freeman on PropertyTales to talk about the electric shock gloves ICE is buying — and the Kentucky company that makes them.
ICE awarded a multi-million-dollar contract for thousands of G.L.O.V.E. devices (Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter) from Compliant Technologies. The gloves look like regular patrol gloves until an officer hits a switch. On skin contact they deliver an electric shock meant to force compliance during arrests, transports, and disturbances.
Heather and Barrett cover what the gloves actually do, how they differ from a Taser, why ICE says it needs them, and why the purchase has drawn so much pushback. Because the manufacturer is based in Kentucky, this one hits close to home.
